As an assistant professor in a law college in Bengaluru, life was going smoothly until the day I received a devastating diagnosis: cancer.
Teaching had to be put on hold, and hospital visits became a regular part of my routine. As time passed, my sabbatical extended, leaving me uncertain about my future as a college professor.
It was during this challenging period that I came across Tsaaro Academy and their remarkable work in the field of cyber security.
While going through their website one day, I came across the Privacy Module for Women on Break Program that DSCI was running in partnership with Microsoft. It immediately piqued my interest.
Right from my college days, I was always interested in studying a blend of cyber security, law, and policy; and this program was offering exactly that.
I took a leap of faith and enrolled for the program, and it turned out to be a lifeline for me. Especially amidst the stressful chemotherapy sessions.
Immersing myself in studies provided a much-needed respite from the emotional turmoil.
Though the course was engaging, and the instructor was excellent, I could not clear the DCPP exam on my first attempt. My health was taking a toll, and I couldn't afford to burden myself further.
I decided to take small steps and be kinder to myself while maintaining consistency to prepare for the exam again. I knew I had it in me to clear the exam, so I never gave up.
My efforts paid off, and I successfully cleared the exam on my second try.
To my delight, the organization I admired greatly, Tsaaro, accepted my application and offered me an internship after I cleared the exam.
I was overjoyed to work with the very people who had inspired me during my journey.
It's been three months now and things have been sailing smoothly.
I have learnt to embrace the unexpected turns of life and make a way ahead by evading every curveball thrown my way.
