Cyber security created headlines and headaches in 2014, with large-scale data breaches at retail chains, attacks on data stored in the Cloud and massive vulnerabilities revealed in decades-old code. For the year 2015, cybersecurity researchers from the Websense® Security Labs (WSL) have outlined their 2015 top security predictions to help global businesses interpret and anticipate threat trends to defend against innovative and sophisticated attacks.
This year’s report is an insightful brief that identifies eight specific areas of cyber threat risk that will not only challenge IT security professionals in 2015, but will continue the trend of escalating risks and consequences of data theft. In the 2015 Predictions report, WSL researchers examined recent data theft techniques and strategies and contextualize those threats in a forward-looking analysis presented in concise and actionable terms.
Some of the new threats that WSL predicts are a function of emerging technological developments, such as expanding digital connectivity around the globe. This evolving reality alone will create a massive number of new threat vectors and cyber players. Other predictions are seen originating from familiar or often overlooked sources and protocols that data security pros ignore at their own peril.
Going forward, the IT threat landscape will see an expanding catalog of threat diversity, less transparency and increasing levels of risk to data, wherever it may be. In defending against cyber-attacks, anticipating the nature of those threats is half the battle.
